The Hummock is an iconic landmark with a rich history dating back thousands of years. It's a volcanic remnant rising 96 meters above sea level and retains a deep connection for First Nations people. The town name is a mixture of the local Aboriginal language and an ancient European term - “Bunda” being the name of the local Aboriginal tribe and “burg” the saxon word meaning town.
Today, the Hummock remains a significant landmark and showcasing it from an aerial perspective really displays the natural beauty of our region.
