While out photographing a previous image “Dead in the Water”, we had some time to explore while capturing long exposures.
We noticed something yellow poking out from the grass in a distant paddock.
After closer inspection we found this Abandoned Chamberlain tractor that had broken down with a blown tire during field clearing.
We ventured out on an afternoon that looked promising for a colourful sunset, but to no avail.
After the failed attempt at a sunset image, we decided this would be a fantastic subject for an Astro image and a perfect addition to the Abandoned series.
After using Photopills to organize our shot with the Galactic Centre, we used two Nikon Speedlights to light paint from both sides of the tractor to add some depth to the image.
Using a Speedlight to light paint from each side of the tractor, rather than doing direct flash from the front, helps add more depth to the subject. Direct flash would flatten out the tractor and not help it pop in the foreground.
